Sidney Wildesmith was interested in knowing more about how we produce and use the immersive, interactive 360 degree panoramas to help people learn about natural resource issues. Other interesting guests on this days' program included Mike Matz, with the Campaign for America's Wilderness who discussed their latest report on 12 wilderness treasures which are in trouble, and Cole Frates, who with the Hydrogen Car Company, has developed hydrogen powered vehicles using normal internal combustion engines.

4/26/04 - High Resolution Zoomable Panoramas and Images
We have produced high resolution 360 degree panoramas and still images using the Zoomify technology. This allows high resolution images to be downloaded fast and be interactive on the web. The main feature is that the user can zoom from a wide view and see high resolution detail and close-up views. The cubic panoramas can be found at Goose Creek in the Kelly Creek Area of the Clearwater Forest in northern Idaho, at Ants Basin Divide in the 4th of July Lake Area of the Boulder White Cloud Mountains in central Idaho and in Boise of Our Front Garden.
A few hi resolution Zoomify Images are available in the Photography Gallery.
Zoomify's web site provides a free Zoomify QuickTime Component for viewing the panoramas and images that we have produced using QuickTime.

4/26/04 - New videos zoom and pan on close-up images and panoramas.
Using several still images to create "Ken Burns" motion effect movies, we have produced some high quality Photos to Video of plants and flowers, some with identity captions. This technology might represent the next generation of interactive outdoor "field guides" for the Internet, computer kiosks and DVD's. Using a hi resolution panorama, we have created a similar Panorama to Video movie which pans and zooms from wide views to details. |
