Snowbank Roadless Area
We have decided to "adopt" this roadless area and post these panoramas to help others understand what a special place this is and its need for protection.
Snowbank Creek, (formally Sqauw Creek) is home to native Rainbow and Bull Trout and Rocky Mountain Whitefish. In addition, the roadless area provides critical calving grounds for elk and mule deer and is the home for black bear, cougar and a host of other wildlife. This area also provides breeding and nesting habitat for neo-tropical migrant birds, including Hermit, Swainson's and Varied Thrushes, Western Tanagers, Lazuli Buntings, Mountain Bluebirds, Townsends, Yellow-rumped, Yellow and Orange Crowned Warblers. This area is very diverse; from lower elevation Ponderosa pine old growth forests, through mid-elevation Engleman spruce to Whitebark pine and Sub-alpine fir interspersed with alpine meadows at 8,000 feet.
Threats to this area include; road building, logging, unregulated ATV use, and grazing.
