Upper Bass Canyon

Bass Canyon is one of seven perennial streams within the Muleshoe Cooperative Management Area. Zone-tailed hawks and turkey vultures can be seen circling these streams. Small lizards and Gila monsters inhabit the riparian areas and many birds, including long-eared owls nest nearby. Prickly pear and Cholla cactus thrive in this area. They are not only beautiful, but serve as food for various birds and mammals. Riparian areas make up less than one percent of all habitat in Arizona, yet harbor the greatest biodiversity of any habitat.
