Pole Patch on Little Whitehorse Creek

This Pole Patch site on Little Whitehorse Creek was nearly bare ground back in 1988. Shortly after that, the Trout Creek Mountain Working Group's grazing plan was instituted. Since that time, the streamside vegetation has grown back and the small patch of aspens are thriving. The grazing plan calls for two years on and two years off. This short grazing period of a couple month or so allows for more growing season so that the banks have adequate vegetation before the high flows in the following spring. This helps to build banks instead of cutting into them all the time.
