San Pedro House Access

Since 1986, when the Bureau of Land Management excluded this area from cattle grazing, the riparian under, mid and upper story vegetation has been rebounding dramatically. Many species of migrating neo-tropical song birds use all three stories of vegetation. Birdwatching is a favorite pastime along the San Pedro River, with approximately 345 species of birds reported from the area. The San Pedro and its tributaries are also an important refuge for Arizona's native fishes. Seven of the 13 fishes native to the San Pedro still remain in the river or its tributaries. However, all native fishes of the San Pedro face a variety of threats such as invasion by non-native species, some of which are predators on native fishes.
