Double R Canyon

Double R Canyon is one of seven permanently flowing streams within the Muleshoe Cooperative Management Area. Many of these streams experience subsurface flows, where the water sometimes runs underground for miles before popping up again. The large bunch grass is deer grass, which has a deep and fibrous root system. Deer grass is good at holding bank soils and is very resistant to scouring during flash floods. It's presence is a good indication the riparian area is healthy and functioning well. Resident big horn sheep can sometimes be seen along the canyon rims
