The 45 Ranch on the South Fork of the Owyhee River, Idaho

Working on fences. Pronghorn antelope.

Magnificent, but rare - California Bighorn Sheep provide the motivation for watershed restoration work at the 45 Ranch in southwest Idaho. A recent change of ranch ownership sparked a new management plan that seeks to manage livestock grazing on the 68,000 acre allotment in a manner more compatible with wildlife needs. Sage grouse, chukkar, mule deer, antelope, mountain lion, bobcat and river otter trout are all at home in this unique desert canyon environment. The partnership envisions making the remote Owyhee River location a base for conservation education and cooperative wildlife management programs.
